Nick's Lake Powell Trip

June 1st:

Nick and Austin got home this evening around 5:00 pm.  They looked like they had a good time but were tired from the drive.  Just like every year, they over estimated on food and beer and brought a lot home.  Nick said it was a good trip, full of lots of sleeping and fishing!  They found a spot in the mouth of Rock Creek Bay which was awesome for guys because the steep rock wall provided shade all day long.  Nick said the temperature was really comfortable, it didn't get above the low 90's.  The only complaint was about the wind storms that started on Tuesday afternoon.  On Wednesday, Nick thought it would be best to move the houseboat and find a less windy spot where the houseboat wouldn't bang against the rocks all night long.  When they backed the houseboat out of the spot, they discovered that the steering on the houseboat was completely broken!  It was a miracle that they were able to get the houseboat back to the shore without damaging anything.  After a long afternoon of spotty phone calls, it was going to cost a fortune to have someone come look at it, so Nick and Austin found out they could get the motors to turn if one of them was manually pushing and pulling them while the other was turning the wheel.  Then on Thursday, they some how managed to back the boat out and headed down the main channel with no steering!  Luckily, Nick is an experienced driver and he was able to make it all the way back to Wahweap Marina and park the houseboat in the slip with Austin's help manually turning the motors!  It never fails, even though Lake Powell is the best vacation ever, something always seems to go wrong!  All in all, I am glad that Nick was able to get away and have a relaxing week on the lake.
