Welcome Tyson Monroe Davis

July 15th:

Today marked the beginning of a totally new journey for Nick and I . . . we became a Mommy and Daddy to our handsome little guy, Tyson Monroe Davis.  The day was such a whirl wind!  I am so glad that before hand, I got some good advice from Alyssa to have Nick take notes throughout the day.  So this post will be from Nick's notes!  Here goes . . .

8:00 am: Appointment with Dr. Parsons at St. Luke Eagle. Kelly's blood pressure elevated 150/90 with a trace of protein in the urine. Considered borderline preeclampsia.  Doctor said we should have the baby TODAY!

8:30 am: We went home to pack up and head to the hospital

9:10 am: We were all set to go and headed out to St. Luke's Meridian

9:43 am: Checked in at front desk on the third floor

10:00 am: We were taken back to room 305 and Kelly got to put on a very attractive hospital gown.  Met with nurse Michelle and talked to the Doctor for a minute. (He explained how the induction would go)
10:15 am: Kelly was hooked up baby heart rate monitor and contraction monitor.  Michelle got an IV started on the second try in her right arm. (My mom showed up around here, it was comforting to have her there!)
11:15 am: Michelle checked Kelly's cervix and she was a 2 cm.  Michelle then administered the cytotec pill next to her cervix to help soften it and hopefully get some contractions going.
Contractions were fairly normal every 1-3 minutes.  Kelly was having some difficulty with them wanting to move away from them or go to the bathroom.

1:45 pm: Contraction pain was very intense so the nurses gave her IV Stadol, a pain narcotic.  Afterwards, Kelly felt very loopy but the contractions were more manageable. (MB showed up around here)

3:10 pm: Michelle checked Kelly's cervix again and she was at 4.5 cm and said baby has significantly moved down.  We are making good progress!  Michelle asked about epidural and we said YES!  Doctor should be coming soon to administer Epidural.

3:45 pm: Doctor came in and administered the epidural.  Kelly did awesome and held super still even through contractions.  Good job sweets!  She had a lot of fluid which came right when she sat up to do the epidural.  It was probably her water breaking.

4:10 pm: Michelle checked Kelly again and she was at 9.5cm almost ready to push!

Things got too crazy from here and this is were Nick's notes end, so I'll take over from here.

5:00 ish:  With the delivery room full, Nick, my mom, MB, my wonderful nurse Michelle, Dr. Dufurrena and the complete nursing staff required when delivering a baby I was instructed to make my first push . . .which didn't go so well because the doctor and half the staff took off their gloves and walked out of the room!  Michelle told me that it might take me a while to figure out how to push.  For the next, hour I pushed with every contraction, which I couldn't feel in my abdomen, thanks to the epidural, but I could feel the pressure of his head and had the sensation to bear down.

6:00 ish:  I had a major melt down because I was so frustrated that I couldn't figure out how to correctly push!  I was frustrated that had to be wearing oxygen and I couldn't get a good breath in before I had to push.  It was nice to have my mom there to assist with my oxygen and rub my head.  During my crying fit, Michelle and Nick were amazing and talked me through it.  Being frustrated must have given me the push that I needed because little Tyson was soon crowing after that.  Michelle called the Doctor and delivery team back in room and within two contractions our beautiful baby was born!

6:18 pm:  Tyson Monroe Davis came into this world, weighting 6 lbs 1 oz and 20 inches long.  Immediately, the nurses placed Tyson on my chest, he was perfect and screaming!  The first thing that I noticed was how thin his bottom lip was when he cried, which is exactly what Nick's looks like when he is really upset and crying!  There was lots of tears between Nick, myself, and both of our moms.  Tyson acted interesting in nursing, so that was attempted within minutes.  It was such an excited and overwhelming time!
During all our celebrating, Dr. Dufurrena was still working on getting my placenta out.  Unfortunately, I was unable to deliver it and had to be rushed to the operating room, which was a really big blur!  I was put under anesthesia within minutes, which was a great thing because apparently it didn't go as planned and my placenta was hard to get out.  I lost more blood than anticipated, meaning that I was put on pitocin, morphine, and another drug to stop the bleeding.

Meanwhile back in the delivery room, Nick was handed Tyson and was told he was in charge!  Even though I wasn't there I know he did a great job!  I love how proud he looks in their first picture together!
Big sister Audrianna, Dennis, my Dad, Brent, Jennifer, Ross, and the kids were all able to be there and hold baby Tyson!
I was told that Audrianna was a super big help as Tyson was getting checked out and his cousin's were all watching!
8:00 ish:  I woke up in recovery, which was not super pleasant but I did recognize my nurse from years ago when I worked x-ray at St. Luke's downtown, her name was Lindy and she was awesome.  I was lucky to have her as my nurse that first night!

9:00 ish:  I was taken to our room, number 313, which was full of family and friends.  As soon as I got wheeled into the room I heard Tyson crying, which apparently was the first time he cry since birth.  It was a little chaotic but nice to have all the support.  I didn't feel great because I hooked up to a magnesium pump and my body was in shock trying to come off a number of drugs (Stadol, Morphine, Pitocin, and I am sure much more).  Miss Anna was the first friend to cuddle our little guy!
11:00 ish: All our company had gone home and we were able have some special time with our little boy!
